A native of Taichun, Taiwan, Professor Lin Yun is now teaching in the US about Black Sect Tantric Buddhism. His mother and father are from Taiwanese prestigious families. He started training for Black Sect Tantric Buddhism at the age of six. He then studied under many philosophers and scholars.
He built the Yun Lin Temple in Berkley, California in 1986 and invited many disciples to his cause. And then the Cultural Center of Yu Lin Temple was founded in 1993, a foremost in the US. A second temple named the Yu Lin Monastery was put up in 1994 in Long Island New York.
Professor Lin Yun practices the fourth stage of Black Sect Tantric Buddhism. The fourth stage originated from the first stage prior to Indian Buddhism and was called Black Sect. He intends to expand and modernize Buddhism so it can be applied to practical use in present time. Though he isn’t against the vow of becoming monks, he advises his disciples to pursue their day jobs. His followers can put Buddhism into practice after work hours by meditating and giving to charity.
Professor Lin Yun teaches different topics at the Yun Lin Temple such as I Ching, feng shui, calligraphy, Ch’I, Tang dynasty poetry, holistic healing, and other meditation methods. His teachings are holistic, philosophical, and spiritual. Other teachers in the Yun Lin Temple include high lamas and Buddhist masters.
Various universities and religious groups have invited him as speaker. Some of these institutions include the American Institute of Architects Harvard, Yale, Princeton, MIT and many more. He has made guest appearances in many TV channels like CBS, NBC, FOX. His theories were also featured in publications in different continents.
Professor Lin Yun was proclaimed a different title in 1998. Together with four high lamas, His Holiness Lungtok Tenpai Nyima Rinpoche, leader of the Bon religion, went to India. A ceremony took place at the Yun Lin Temple and Lin Yun Monastery, and then the title “His Holiness” was bestowed on Lin Yun; this is the first time a Chinese is given this tribute.
Master Lin Yun had written four books, and all of which are considered best sellers. The first is “Interior Design with Feng Shui”, published in 1990, and has been labeled by the New York Times as the Bible of Feng Shui. “Feng Shui Design: The Art of Creating Harmony for Interiors, Landscape, and Architecture” is the title of his most up-to-date book. He also produced an educational video known as “Feng Shui: Creating Environments for Success and Well-Being”. Soon after, it was aired as a TV program that discusses feng shui, a breakthrough in the US.
