Drug testing at home and the differing types of tests on the market.
Sometimes, drugs are a sore subject in countless homes. As you will realise many drugs are not legal and the penalties for either possessing them or taking them can be severe. There are lots of varieties of illegal drugs, often with many ‘street’ names resulting in them being difficult to spot, by non-users, in conversation.
These are the most common drugs used:
•Cannabis – weed, marijuana, ganja, hash, puff, herb, draw,
• Cocaine – charlie, coke, crack,
• Methamphetamines – MDMA, E, ecstasy,
• Amphetamines – dexies, uppers, billy, whiz, speed
• Opiates – heroin, smack, codeine, morphine
• Benzodiazepines – bennies, downers, tranx
• Methadone – Meth, Mixture, Linctus
The three main forms of drug tests are urine tests, oral tests and hair tests, each variety shows different time frames of usage; a hair test shows usage over months, urine tests show the use of drugs over days and saliva drugs tests show hourly usage.
There are a lot of different home drug test kits on the market; there are single cassette urine tests, which are used as a test for cocaine usage, for testing cannabis and to test for opiates etc. There are integrated test cups these test for many variations of drugs all in one test, there are also saliva (oral) tests which also tests for various varieties of drugs. There are also hair follicle tests which can determine a multitude of drugs, unfortunately these are usually costly and they cannot be done at home.
What should you do if you are worried that a member of your family is involved in drugs?
For starters it is best to have a sit down with them and talk to them about it, try not to get angry and let them know that you are concerned for their wellbeing. If the individual still denies misusing drugs yet you still have reason to believe that they are, request that they undergo a drug test to show they aren’t on drugs. However, if they have taken drugs they are less likely to do it freely and unfortunately the tests all require the subjects cooperation. In these circumstances it is best to get advice from an expert.
